Reviews of Silvery Moon

Aoife Clancy, Silvery Moon, Appleseed
Silvery Moon is a gorgeous CD of traditional and modern choices
well suited to match lovers of both styles. We hear songs of alternating
origin: Ireland, Australia, Scotland, Appalachia and England. The
repetition of the flutes, violins, and the clear, unaffected vocals,
create a listening pleasure that takes us through the poetry of
Australia's Henry Lawson and Scotland's Robert Tannahill with "The
Sliprails and the Spur," and "Are you Sleeping Maggie,"
respectively.
This is Aoife's (pronounced "Eefa") third
solo release, after fronting the Irish band Cherish the Ladies.
Co-member Joanie Madden recounts, in the CD's introduction, the
years of joys on-and off -stage, and the sadness and understanding
felt by all when she decided to move on alone. Even more touching
are the notes accompanying the inclusion of the duet "Kisses
Sweeter than Wine" done with her father, the late Bobby Clancy
(of the Clancy Brothers). Having lost her father just this Fall,
adds a magic quality to the reminder to Cherish the family.
More apperances of the talented family include the
uplifting modern ballad of perseverance amid despair, "There
is Hope", by her cousin Robbie O'Connell. Soft Violin (Lisa
Schneckenburger), guitar (cousin Donal Clancy) and flutes (Larry
Nugent), are a perfect accompaniment for the gentleness of Aoife's
clear delivery.
